Happy New Year!
It's 2008, and I need a job.  I don't think I can put off finding one by getting another degree this time.  For some reason I seem to think that I need to have a job lined up before I graduate.  In fact, I'm already behind.  I should have sent out copies of my resume and started interviewing already.

Why is it that I can't find a single job on the Career Services website that interests me?  I realize that this is part of the problem with me not finding a job, but I really don't want to hate my career.  I don't want to hate going into work every day.  I don't want to feel like I wasted 3 years of my life in law school.

The biggest problem is that I already found my dream job.  I had my dream job this summer.  It was perfect and amazing and fulfilling and exciting and every other wonderful thing you can name.  Unfortunately, they aren't hiring and won't be hiring until someone retires.  They are a non-profit firm and can't quite afford to hire any new lawyers -- I guess that's one drawback (I'll never be rich).

Damn real life stuff.

Hooked on more degrees worked for me :)

I'm on the job hunt right now, too, and having trouble...closest opening for an academic law librarian is in St. Paul, MN. I've been sending out apps, and I'm looking forward to starting my career in some place like scenic Oakland County, MI or Carbondale, IL.

I guess there's a moral to my story. You keep looking and you'll find something eventually...just be willing to take something you don't necessarily want temporarily, and you can find something later that's to your liking. (One possibility is one of those document reviewer positions through places like Kelly's Law Registry. It's basically a lawyer temp service. My friend Chad who graduated with me last year did that until he found a job he liked.)

Anyhoo, good luck with the job search. If I see anything that catches my eye, I'll let you know.

PS -- there was a public interest career fair in Chicago last February that some of my classmates went to. Check with Dean Everman to see if they're doing it again this year -- you might find something that way, too.

I actually started looking into LLM programs. This whole "school" business is addicting. I sometimes think to myself, "I really should go back to the English department and get my PhD." Then, I have to remind myself that I hate teaching.

I'm sure that you'll find something soon! It might even be something that you like. :)

If I could convince the law college to pay for me to attend a career fair, I'd be all over that. :P

You especially won't be rich working there when you take into account the cost of living in the area. That said, I'm absolutely in love with the city and its offbeat inhabitants. If that doesn't work out, you'd still make a killing with an Indian Taco stand.
