Classes and babbling...
Remember the good ol' days of being an undergrad and having the luxury of taking whatever classes you wanted simply because they sounded interesting, regardless of whether they would actually help you in your future career?  The first class I ever took for the sheet fun was "Arthur in Lit & Legend," an English class that fulfilled no requirements whatsoever (even though I was an English major).  The class focused on, you guessed it: King Arthur.  Ahhh... good times.

So, fast forward to today when I am contemplating what classes to take in the fall which I presume will be my second to last semester of school.  Law school is funny in the sense that when you first begin, you have no say in what classes you take.  Your entire first year is already laid out for you with no say even in what section you're going to take.  After your first year there are two classes that you MUST take, but otherwise you are free to fill those remaining 63 credit hours with whatever your heart desires.  The only caveat is that they must, of course, be LAW (or, in some cases, law-related) classes.

Ahhh.. the freedom that must provide!

Not so much - now, you're thinking about what classes will help your career?  What's going to be on the bar exam that WASN'T covered in your first year?  What will look good on my transcripts?  What will employers ask me about?  What do I actually NEED to know?

I will be able to register in a week and half, and I'm not sure what to take.  Career-wise, I already know that I don't want to *be a lawyer* in the sense that going into a courtroom frightens the hell out of me.  I don't want to work for "the man,"  I'm not interested in business, and I certainly don't want to have my soul sucked out of me in exchange for a six-figure salary.  My internship this summer is with a non-profit firm (the most awesome one ever---my inspiration for going to law school), and I'm lucky that I'm even getting paid.

I took the one class that I wanted to take: Native American Law (THE reason I came to law school).  When people ask, I say that I'm interested in policy.  What do I want to be when I grow up?  I want to be President of my tribe; I want to work for the betterment of all Indian nations; I want to change legislation in favor of treaty rights and sovereignty.  (I also want to voice cartoon characters, but that's neither here nor there.)

I seem to be on this Constitutional law as well as Employment law track.  The constitutional stuff makes sense for my career path, but I don't know how this Employment law stuff came up.  Right now I'm taking not one, but TWO employment classes.  Next year, I'm taking a class on ERISA...and I can't figure out why!  Well, that's not true, I know why.  The prof who teaches it is one of the foremost experts in the country on the topic, and very few people understand it.  It'll be nice to have that edge, I guess.  Lol... I already have an edge in knowing what that acronym means.

Truth be told, every area of law implicates federal Indian law.  So, I'm good with whatever I take.

But.... there are two classes that are being offered next year that appeal to my "Arthur in Lit & Legend" (non)sensibility:  Sports Law and Space Law.

Choices, choices...

Here's what else is sidetracking me:  I keep looking through the schedule of classes at the English Department and what they're offering.  Sure, my analytical skills are put to use here, but... books... fun... literary criticism...books...fun.

You're taking Employee Benefits? I still have my statute supplement and my notes. If you want them, I can give them to you, plus I can help out. (I guess I know my stuff - I did get a 9 last fall...) I warn you, I got too lazy to outline by 3rd year, so I just have my semi-coherent notes. Just drop me a line if you want 'em.

Is Lawson offering Law & Literature again? I know some people really liked that class (or did you already take it?)
